A Surprise Conversation
Church By Phone
This weekend, April the 7th, Dr. Murdock
will be at “Lord of Host” in Omaha, NE.
Dr. Murdock will have some recordings
available online for us for when he’s in Africa.
The strongest thing in his heart today is
the power of a surprise conversation.
You can make a conversation
a surprise conversation.
When I think of a surprise
conversation I think of
Something happening in the
conversation that was unplanned.
We’re getting word from everywhere.
From all over the world.
(Dr. Murdock will be in England
in a few months, weeks even).
You’re life can’t change if you
can’t have a conversation with
yourself or with somebody else.
The only thing God does is talk.
And He expects you to govern
your world with your mouth.
Your mouth’ll open doors
and it’ll shut doors.
The simplest difference
between a wise person &
a fool is what they say–
something they say.
The Bible says “a fool
uttereth all he knows,
but a wise man will
contain it until the
It’s called timing.
God does everything with
His mouth, and He expects
me to run my world with my
Not “ruin” my world with my mouth.
Take the “i” [ “I” 😉 ] out of “ruin”
Govern your environment
with your conversation.
Silence is often a strategy to
rob you of needed information.
I despise the reaction of
silence when I ask a question.
I stop talking to people
who stop listening.
I consider my conversation to
be a major investment of my life.
I give my highest thoughts,
I’ve take the cream of
67 years of my life and
thrusting it into a conversation
that should radically improve
a person’s world.
Stopping pain, preventing pain,
and multiplying a pleasurable
experience in my life.
I’m obsessed with pleasure.
I was created for that.
I’m made in the image of God.
Everything God did was for pleasure.
Everything He created was for pleasure.
God expected you to have an
interest in pleasure–in fact
He uses pleasure as a motivation
for submission to Him, obedience to Him.
Men don’t serve God for one reason:
they think that it’ll stop their pleasure.
But God said, Where your “stupid”
comes in is what you think will pleasure you.
The Law of the Bittersweet:
God offers bitter first, and sweet forever.
But satan offers sweet first & bitterness forever.
The bitter moments with God are turning points.
The bitter seasons with satan is a lifestyle.
You experience pleasure for a moment.
A conversation should be a happy experience,
either in the immediate or in the hereafter.
If you’re confronted in a conversation–
meaning something you said or did
needed to be addressed and stopped.
If your mother and father confronted
you, it meant that they were trying to
stop, shorten or prevent pain the pain
of the future. And they wanted to make
it possible for you to experience pleasure.
That’s why a husband
and wife confront each other.
Dr. Murdock is personally not hesitant
about confrontation–it comes easily to him.
Conversation can be gracious, it can be gentle.
You know a [gentle] stroke and
a slap are two different things.
There’s confrontations that are coarse,
crude, rude, and brutal.
And there’s confrontations that are gentle,
Who doesn’t love to be stroked?
We all love pleasure.
Who’s perverted enough to love pain?
The God Who made the
monkey knows how to laugh.
The God Who made the cheetah,
knows the power of speed, is
pleasured by speed.
The God Who made the mountains
is pleasured by beauty.
God Who made woman is
pleasured by sex.
He called Himself the Word.
He listens attentively, accurately,
He knows you.
There’s no distortion in His character.
He says “death and life are in
the power of the tongue.”
(A preacher said to Dr. Murdock,
“I hope you didn’t tweet
that to everybody…??”
>> in response to his tweet
“Laziness is unsexy”–
and if you read Prov 31,
you’ll find a woman who
is incredibly sensuous.
She was productive.)
#1 Was when Rebecca sees a man with a need.
>> Not a man she could
manipulate, and to coax,
“You got a little money…?”
>> She’s not the woman that’ll
come up to you and say, “You
know, my phone got turned off.
That’s why I didn’t return your
phone call…because my phone
got turned off…!”
> Knowing that a man would
say, “Well, how much does it cost
for you to turn it back on?” 😉
> Neither did she say,
“Well, my camel got killed last
week. I wish I had a camel…”
– No, this woman wasn’t looking
for a problem-solver to hook up
> To give him a little “sugar”
so he’d give her a little cash.
– This woman said, I want to
become your problem-solver.
She initiated a surprise conversation.
It’s always a surprise conversation that
some wants to solve a problem with.
#2 When Jesus walked up and a woman
had just been caught in the act of
adultery, and was about to be stoned
– And Jesus said, Let him who’s without sin
cast the first stone. All you guys–all you
– And then He stooped down and wrote
something in the sand.
> What did he write?
Dr. Murdock thinks it was:
“Where’s the man?”
– And after they’d all left, Jesus
asked her where her accusers were &
then said, Go and sin no more.
A surprise conversation where you
release somebody from the penalty
of their mistake. And remove it.
Why don’t you release somebody?
Why don’t you let go of somebody?
A famous man, Ralph Carmichael.
> known all throughout the world:
The Ralph Carmichael Symphony
> took some of Dr. Murdock’s
songs and began to arrange, and
to play them.
– he owed Dr. Murdock a lot of money
> a lot of money
– he flew all the way to Dallas to discuss it
– his company was going bankrupt
– he said, “Mike, I don’t know when I
can pay you–maybe two years…maybe
a year and a half. And I want to apologize
for owing you money, and I’ve never had
this kind of turn-down in my business…”
– And Dr. Murdock looks at this patriarch
of the Gospel
> a man with poise and dignity
> the man was “world-class” personified
– Dr. Murdock was 36 years old, and said,
“Oh, Mr. Carmichael, I’m so thankful that
you even put my songs out.”
> I’ll cancel all of your debt to me,
all of your debt. You don’t owe me a thing.
Anything we can do.”
Forgiveness makes conversations unforgettable.
Forgiveness thrusts a burden of compensation on us.
Dr. Murdock: “Ever since I found out got
forgave me, I’ve been trying to be perfect…”
You don’t ever forget forgiveness.
Some surprise conversations
expose the hidden deception
in the character of those you
do business with.
All pain contains irreplaceable wisdom
that can last you a lifetime.
Pain is a motivator.
Pain drives you to God.
Look at the prodigal son when he was
in the pigpen, and he said to himself,
“My father’s servants eat better than this.”
And the rest was history….
Father, You fascinate us. You fascinate us. Oh, we enjoy You. Oh, we enjoy You! We enjoy You. Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for a surprise conversation. Bring us radical changes. Thank You, thank You, thank You! Thank You, thank You, thank You, thank You. Thank You, thank You… There’s nobody like the Lord, is there? There’s nobody like Him.
Soak up love–He’s your river. Soak Him up. Bathe in Him. Bathe in Him!
The Holy Spirit is not only a person, the Holy Spirit is a place: in Him we live, we move, we have our being…
This is going to the greatest year of your lifetime.
This is the greatest year ever scheduled by the Holy Spirit in your lifetime.
You should be journaling 3 inspirations a day.
God will discuss anything that bothers you.
He’s not like the lawyer that can’t pull your tooth.
He’s not like the dentist who can’t tell you how to dress.
God’s not like the chef who can’t prepare the food you love.
He will perfect everything that concerns you.
There’s nobody like Him.
Say these words right where you’re sititing:
” I will birth surprise conversations for others.”
Say it again.
Dr. Murdock was sitting, waiting for a limousine to pick him up for a conference. And he doesn’t like waiting. He’s sitting there for one solid hour, sitting there thinking. And he remembered a friend of his who’d gone through a divorce two years prior, and Dr. Murdock had been friends with both of them, but had only spoken with the man, not the woman.
So he pulled out his phone and called her, and the phone rang and rang and rang. And Dr. Murdock thought, This is nuts!
Finally, a small ,faint, very weak voice whispered into the phone, “Hello?”
He said, “Is this ________?”
And she, emotionless, said, ” Yes.”
Dr. Murdock said, “I was sitting here thinking about you, and the Holy Spirit prompted me to call you.”
And she began to cry and cry, and sob on the telephone. She sobbed.
She said, “Mike, I’m holding a bottle of sleeping pills in my hand. And I had just decided to take them. All of them. I’d already taken the top off of the bottle–and the phone rang. And it’s you.”
A surprise conversation.
Did you ever read Ken Gaub’s book entitled, “God Has Your Number“?
You’ve gotta read that book.
Ken Gaub rode his ministry through two big city busses.
They were way out on a desert highway, and they were looking for food, and finally they found a little restaurant way out in the middle of nowhere.
Everybody filed out of the busses to go eat, but Ken said, “I felt like, for some reason, I shouldn’t eat. So I decided to just pray.” So he went off to pray in a little area beside the road next to the restaurant. Ken began to pray in the Spirit in that area, when all of sudden, out of the clear blue, a phone rings. Ken thinks to himself, A phone? Where is there a phone way out here?
He looks around, and there’s a phone right there. There’s a public telephone, over on the side of where he was praying out in the parking lot. He looks around and nobody else is there. He walks over there to the phone, picks it up, “Hello?”
And a voice cried and said, “Hello? Hello? Hello…hello? Is this Ken Gaub?”
On a telephone–in the middle of the desert, here in the United States!
He’s shocked. He says, “Yes it is…who is this?”
She says, “Is this Ken Gaub, the evangelist, of Ken Gaub Ministries??”
He says, “Yes.”
She began to cry and she says, “I’m a drug addict, and I was fixin to commit suicide,” and she says, “And I cried out to God! I cried to God! And God gave mr these numbers to write down. And I wrote the numbers down that the Spirit told me, and called them…”.
She had no idea it was through a public telephone booth, on the side of the road, of a little restaurant. And that Ken Gaub was driving, and had just stopped at that restaurant.
And Ken Gaub wrote a book about it, “God Has Your Number”.
God knows your pain.
God knows where you struggle.
God’s not offended with your reaching for Him.
God’s not embarrassed when you reach for Him.
God’s not perplexed when you need an answer.
Saturday Dr. Murdock flies to
Omaha, Nebraska for Sunday’s
services. And Tuesday on the
9th of April, he will leave for
Germany, to go to Lagos,
Nigeria, on to Port Harcourt,
then to Abuja.
The Spirit of God told Dr. Murdock a few nights ago that
there was going to be 10 days of surprise conversations.
Not just God to you.
God’s going to send somebody to talk to you.
God’s going to send you to talk to somebody.
Kids will call. People will get raises at work.
Don’t believe it? Journal it.
There’s an atheist girl, Natalie, on
Twitter who really hates Dr. Murdock’s
Dr. Murdock decided to ask God to
“shake her world up”.
[In fact, pray for] By April the 9th, her and
every U.S. atheist to have a Divine encounter.
A surprise conversation for atheists in America(!)
God loves to listen.
And He loves to talk. If He finds somebody
to listen, He’ll talk all night.
He’s never boring.
“I receive a surprise conversation by April the 9th.”
Father, some will not hear this until the last day.
Give them another ten days. Those who do not
find out about this until [after] the 9th, give them
an extended period of time to have a Divine
encounter. In Jesus’s Name. Amen.
Praise God, praise God.
“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
Dr. Murdock has been invited to two major
conferences for leaders in Nigeria.
Every August & September for the past 10 years,
Dr. Murdock, along with T.D. Jakes and others,
has preached at the “Gathering of Champions”
Conference, in London.
Thank you for caring, thank you
for making it possible. Thank you.
Dr. Murdock is going to South
Africa at the end of April, and then
going back to Nigeria to build a church
in the month of May.

ROMI – return on my investment
Thinking like an investor:
Not what will happen to today,
but what will happen tomorrow?
Like Sam Walton investing in what
a company will look like a year from
now, or the Japanese companies that
have 100-year, or even a 300-year goal.
Plant a seed.
Invest in God’s Kingdom.
Invest in the people doing God’s
work on the earth.
